Our skin ages as we age, leaving us with wrinkles, “smile lines,” and “crow’s feet”. Over time, the natural volume and youthful appearance of our skin fades, but at Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates, Dr. Omar Almallah offers JUVÉDERM® injectable gel. JUVÉDERM® Ultra is for contouring and adding volume to facial wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus is formulated for correcting deeper folds and has been known to last up to one full year. Patients seek out Dr. Almallah because he is an internationally recognized ophthalmologist educated in procedures in and around the eyes and face. His gentle touch and confident style place patients at ease when being treated by him.
JUVÉDERM® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyalronic acid – this naturally occurring substance in our skin helps to add volume and fullness. Since it’s FDA approval in 2006, JUVÉDERM® has rapidly become one of the most used dermal fillers available. JUVÉDERM® flows easily leaving a smooth natural look and is long lasting because it binds the body’s natural elastin and collagen together, which maintains a fuller more youthful look for up to six months.
What to Expect
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is a non-surgical wrinkle treatment with little or no recovery or downtime. In most cases, you can make your appointment and go about your daily activities right after receiving treatment. Some physicians may recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) for at least a week before your treatment.
Typically, your physician will ease the JUVÉDERM® injectable gel under the skin where you would like to soften and refresh your look. Following the injections, your physician may massage the treated areas. This procedure is quick, normally completed in about 15 minutes.
Following your treatment, for at least the first 24 hours, you should avoid strenuous exercise, prolonged time in the sun or heat and alcoholic beverages in order to minimize redness, itching, and swelling at the treatment sites. Temporary reactions may occur at the treatment sites, such as minor pain, firmness, swelling, redness and bumps. According to studies that were performed, these reactions are usually mild to moderate in nature and resolve themselves in 7 days or less. Of course, applying an ice pack on the treated areas will reduce the redness and swelling immediately following the procedure.
One treatment could smooth out your lines for up to one full year. You should see immediate improvement after your treatment. Many patients will need an additional treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothness, however results vary and the correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch-up” treatments may be required to maintain desired results.
It is important that before you consider treatment with JUVÉDERM®, that you consult your physician and get a full medical history to determine that you are a good candidate for treatment. For people who have struggled to find a compatible product for darker skin tones, JUVÉDERM® is the only hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven safe and effective with patients of all skin types and colors. It is also an environmentally safe product, free of animal-derived ingredients and fully biodegradable.
You should also be aware of any allergies you have. JUVÉDERM® injectable gel should not be used in patients that have:
- Severe allergies marked by a history of anaphylaxis or presence of multiple severe allergies.
- A history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins.
In addition, you should discuss with your physician, safety issues and warnings regarding the effectiveness of JUVÉDERM® injectable gel for the treatment of areas other than facial wrinkles and folds (such as lips), as they have not been established in controlled studies.
Possible side effects are usually temporary and include redness, swelling, pain, firmness, bumps, and itching around the injection areas.
JUVÉDERM® injectable gel is very affordable ranging in price from the typical minimum average cost of $500.00 to the typical maximum cost of $750.00. (These price examples are based on the National Averages)
