Dr. Omar F. Almallah, MD, FACS, FABES

New Jersey Eye Surgeon Dr. Omar AlmallahDr. Almallah is a board-certified ophthalmologist, certified both by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the American Board of Eye Surgeons. His primary practice is devoted to eye surgery and has been practicing in Toms River and the surrounding communities for the last 29 years.

He is an internationally recognized refractive ocular surgeon and is recognized by his peers as one of the finest and most skilled eye surgeons in the world. In fact, patients have traveled from England, Germany, Korea, Saudi Arabia, India, Turkey, and across the United States to have their eye surgery performed by Dr. Almallah. He was also the recipient of The American Board of Eye Surgery's Doctor of the Month award in 2003.

As an experienced ophthalmic and refractive surgeon, Dr. Almallah has performed over 28,000 microsurgical procedures. He performs the full range of refractive surgical procedures including LASIK, PRK, RK, and lens exchange for qualified candidates.

His education and professional training include:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree the University of Pittsburgh 
  • Doctorate of Medicine from the Temple University School of Medicine 
  • Training to be an eye specialist at the Temple University Hospital 

Dr. Almallah has articles published in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Ocular Surgery News, Review of Ophthalmology, Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today, and the trade publication Eye World. He has been asked to comment on complicated surgical problems, which have been published in major international journals, and he has been an invited speaker at major national and international ophthalmology meetings.

Dr. Almallah evaluates every surgical candidate personally and does not delegate any significant part of the evaluation to technicians. He applies his extensive knowledge & experience in ocular surgery to educate patients and their families to the appropriateness of recommending particular ocular procedures to patients. When he does recommend a procedure, it's with great confidence that the patient will benefit.

Dr. Almallah's other interests include boating (he holds a U.S.C.G. 100-ton master license for navigation of U.S. inland waterways). He is also a former U.S. amateur dance sport champion. His dancing skills were highlighted in the February 2011 ASCRS Eye World magazine.

Dr. Omar Almallajh

Dr. Anil Birdi

Ocean County Eye Doctor, Dr. BirdiDr. Anil Birdi is Board Certified and Certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Bidi is a comprehensive ophthalmologist highly skilled in ophthalmic microsurgery with a special emphasis in cataract and refractive surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Society of Corneal and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS).

Dr. Birdi is very excited to be a part of the team at Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates and is dedicated to providing compassionate eye care for his patients. He pays extra attention to detail and has a special interest in utilizing cutting-edge technology to provide the best possible outcomes for his patients.

As a comprehensive ophthalmologist, Dr. Birdi sees patients for routine eye exams and the evaluation and management of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and cataracts. In addition to cataract and refractive surgery, Dr. Birdi also performs surgery for glaucoma, pterygium, and eyelids.

His education and professional training include:

  • Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University
  • Doctorate of Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Medicine
  • Internship in preliminary medicine at Riverside Methodist Hospital

Dr. Kenneth B. Ehrlich

Ocean County Eye Doctor, Dr. EhrlichDr. Kenneth B. Ehrlich is board-certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases. Before working with Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates, Dr. Ehrlich practiced in Ocean County for over 25 years, serving as Director of Ocean County Eye Associates and Low Vision Associates of Ocean County.

His education, professional training, and experience include:

  • Graduate of the Pennsylvania State University and Pennsylvania College of Optometry
  • Clinical Examiner with the National Board of Examiners in Optometry
  • Previously a staff member of the St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston
  • Previous Director of the Ocean County division of St. Barnabas' Gerald E. Fonda, M.D. Low Vision Center
  • Previously on staff at Patterson Army Health Clinic at Fort Monmouth
  • Served as an Examiner for the Northeast Regional Clinical Optometric Testing Service

Dr. Ehrlich did an externship in low vision at the Allied Services for the Handicapped Hospital in Scranton, PA under Dr. William Polikoff, a pioneer and innovator in the field. He is a charter member of the select provider panel chosen by the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, as well as a charter member of the Low Vision Section of the American Optometric Association. He has served as the state liaison for this section to the American Optometric Association. His peers frequently consult him on low vision matters.

Contact lenses are another of Dr. Ehrlich's areas of expertise. He is a charter member of the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association, and specializes in the "hard to fit" patient, including multifocal and astigmatic modalities.

Dr. Ehrlich has been active with the NJ Society of Optometric Physicians, serving on their Eye Care Benefits Committee. He is a past Public Affairs Editor for the society.

An inventor, Dr. Ehrlich holds patents in the United States and seven foreign countries for an Emergency Eye Irrigation Device.

Dr. Ehrlich is a recipient of the United States Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving as an officer in Vietnam.  He was also chosen as a WABC Radio Veteran's Day Honoree for outstanding service and commitment to the U.S. Military awarded at West Point Military Academy.

Dr. Joseph Tulipani

Dr. Joseph Tulipani is a board-certified optometrist who joined Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates in July of 2019. He offers an array of eye care services, with clinical expertise in contact lenses and the treatment and management of ocular disease including dry eyes, cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetes.

As a life-long glasses and contact lens wearer, Dr. Tulipani was inspired to pursue optometry by the caring doctors who helped manage his ocular health. His passion for optometry is evident, from his patient-focused approach to his warm, positive attitude during every appointment.

Dr. Tulipani is proud to provide the highest level of care across numerous optometric specialties. He is particularly interested in working with contact lenses and regularly fits specialty lenses for patients with various corneal conditions, including keratoconus and post-corneal transplant. Additionally, he is committed to staying up to date with leading technological developments for treating and managing ocular diseases.

Dr. Tulipani graduated with a Doctor of Optometry from Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From there, he completed his externship training at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, Florida. The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is ranked as the number one eye hospital in the United States.

During his externship, Dr. Tulipani worked in many specialties such as Glaucoma, Retina, Cornea, Neuro-Optometry, and Primary Care. He also completed rotations at Cornea and Contact Lens, Pediatrics, and Primary Care at The Eye Institute in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Personal Background

Dr. Joseph Tulipani grew up in Sayreville, New Jersey. He is a huge New York sports fan and has played soccer all of his life. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling, going to the beach, and spending time with his family.

Dr. Felicia

Monmouth County Ophthalmologist Dr. FeliciaDr. Felicia is board-certified in the treatment and management of ocular diseases. She is presently a member of the New Jersey Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.

Her education and professional training include:

Dr. Nicole M. Caldeira

Dr. Nicole M. CaldeiraDr. Nicole M. Caldeira joined Susskind and Almallah Eye Associates in 2008. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians, and Ocular Nutritional Society.

Dr. Caldeira enthusiastically provides routine eye exams, contact lens fits, and laser vision correction evaluations. She also treats and manages ocular diseases. 

Patient education is very important to Dr. Caldeira; she enjoys taking the time to discuss her patients’ visual goals, concerns, eye conditions, and the treatment or corrective options available. Dr. Caldeira is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal visual acuity and eye health.

Her education and professional training include:

  • Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Drew University
  • Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO)
  • Rotation at the Cornea and Specialty Contact Lens Services department at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia
  • A hospital-based ocular disease rotation at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia
  • Low vision and pediatrics training also at The Eye Institute in Philadelphia
  • A diverse primary care rotation at Susskind and Almallah Eye Associates

Dr. D'Alterio

NJ Eye Care Doctor, Dr. D'AlterioDr. D'Alterio has been on staff at Susskind & Almallah since 1999. He uses his extensive experience to help his patients achieve good visual health.

His education and professional training include:

  • Graduated from Rutgers University in 1993 
  • Graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia
  • Residency at The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry

During his time at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, he obtained clinical honors in his third-year internship. During his fourth year, he obtained clinical honors in every rotation he attended -- which included primary care/emergency eye care, ocular disease, pediatrics, and hospital-based optometry. He rotated through the Greenville Eye Clinic and Optometric Eye Care Center in Greenville, NC. He also rotated through the Lyons VA Hospital in Lyons, NJ, and The Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. 

During his residency, he worked in many specialties such as Cornea/External Disease, Glaucoma, Retina, Emergency Eye Care, Primary Care, and Oculoplastics. After completing his residency, he continued to work at the college, as a clinical instructor--directly supervising second, third, and fourth-year students. At that time, he joined Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates. 

In his free time, Dr. D'Alterio likes to visit the beach, play and coach sports, and spend time with his wife and three children.
