When your vision has been clouded by cataracts, you will need surgery to correct it. With today’s advanced technology, you have more options than ever before for intraocular lenses (IOLs) to replace your eye’s natural lens and help you see more clearly.

During your consultation at Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates, we can review the many options available and select the right IOLs for your lifestyle. However, the following will give you an overview of the types of advanced lenses available today.

Call 732-338-0153 today to schedule your appointment at one of our convenient office locations in Marlboro, Toms River, Brick, or Barnegat, New Jersey.

Multifocal Length IOLs

Since the FDA first approved IOLs in the 1980s, you have had the option to replace your natural lens with an intraocular lens implant. However, the early standard IOLs did not flex like your eye’s natural lens, meaning multiple focal lengths were no longer possible once you underwent cataract surgery. Although your cloudy vision could be corrected, you would still need glasses and contacts to give you a full range of vision.

Today, you can choose IOLs that provide a multifocal range. From TECNIS Symfony® IOLs that provide Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) for continuous, high-quality vision at any distance to Crystalens® IOLs that provide an active range of vision that closely mirrors the eye’s natural ability to focus, you can select IOLs that give you more freedom to live independently from glasses and contacts.

Toric IOLs

Like toric soft contact lenses, Toric IOLs are designed with different powers in different meridians of the lens that allow for correction of astigmatism. With Toric IOLs, your cataract surgeon orients the lens during placement to ensure proper astigmatism correction so you can enjoy an active lifestyle with more freedom from glasses and contacts.

At Susskind & Almallah Eye Associates we offer patients Toric IOL lens options, including TECNIS Symfony® Toric IOL and TRULIGN™ Toric IOL.

Aspheric IOLs

Traditional IOLs are spherical, which can contribute to minor vision quality issues, such as diminished low-light or night vision. Aspheric IOLs more closely mimic the natural curve of the eye’s lens, which is aspheric, and can therefore provide sharper vision in some cases. We offer our patients the benefits of TECNIS® Toric Aspheric IOLs.
