Testimonials

"

Dear Mr. Brooks:

With great anxiety waiting to have cataract surgery done on my first eye, I could not believe how well everything went with the procedure. Well it only got better, my second eye which was a lazy eye since childhood, also had a procedure done with success well above my expectations. The doctor's, staff and facility, sure set an example for all others to follow. With my good vision, thank you very much for wonderful results and a great experience.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Margot Toolen

AcrySof ReSTOR Intraocular Lens

Monmouth and Ocean Counties, New Jersey

Traditional vision correction for cataracts patients focused on replacing your cloudy crystalline lens with a mono-focal intraocular lens (IOL). After surgery, many people would require reading glasses for additional vision correction of presbyopia, myopia, or hyperopia. Advances in IOL technology now make it possible to correct your vision for all distances with one IOL.

The AcrySof ReSTOR Lens allows for accommodation or focusing, at all distances, near, and far, and everything in between. Now, with this new lens replacement option, you may be able to get rid of your extra pair of glasses.

What is ReSTOR?

Made by Alcon and approved for use by the FDA, ReSTOR intraocular lenses replace the natural crystalline lens of the eyes that is no longer working. The lens uses apodized diffractive and refractive technology. This is the same technology used in powerful telescopes to clarify the focus for the viewer.

Multi-focal IOL

Just a few years ago, the only intraocular lenses available were mono-focal, meaning that you could only see at one distance. If both lenses were replaced, one eye might be adjusted for distance vision, and the other for near vision. But many people still found that they needed glasses.

Vision correction options are vastly improved with new multi-focal lenses. The apodization, which uses a series of concentric diffractive sections of the lens, bends light as though the lens was being adjusted. This is what allows you to accommodate, or change focus from near distances to far, that is what makes ReSTOR a multi-focal lens.

Advantages

There are many advantages of a multi-focal lens over the traditional mono-focal lenses of the past. With ReSTOR you can:

  • Reduce your need for glasses
  • Change focus more naturally
  • Treat your cataract lenses

The procedure

During refractive lens exchange surgery, the cloudy crystalline lens is broken up with the use of lasers and removed from its place in the eye. The ReSTOR IOL is then placed in the eye. The eye possesses some of the fastest healing tissue in the body and no sutures are necessary.

The lens replacement is performed on an out patient basis and is usually completed in just a few hours.
